Dannette R. Smith, Director of Virginia Beach Human Services Department, lives in Virginia Beach. She earned a B.S. in Psychology, M.S. in Social Work, and graduated from the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Executive Management and Leadership program. She is a board member on the Healing Place of Hampton Roads and is involved with the ARDX Foundation in Norfolk – helping families cope with mental health issues. Her favorite children’s book is The Cat in the Hat, by Dr. Seuss. Her best kindergarten memory is visiting the stations around the room where you could dress up like a firefighter, a chef, a teacher and try out different professions.
Her vision for Minus 9 to 5 is:
“Hopes that Minus 9 to 5 will impact families so they can see the need to have their children ready to learn by kindergarten, so they will be set up for success in life. A child’s willingness to learn starts with their parents.”
