The Policy and Advocacy Working Group launched in early 2018, is working to bring early childhood supporters together, build public will and advocate for policies that will improve the region’s early care and education system.
In 2016 the General Assembly directed the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARK) to identify and review state-supported early childhood development programs to determine the best strategy for future early childhood investment. Find the full report here or a summary here.
Virginia has 13 “core” early childhood development programs, which include seven voluntary home visiting programs, the Virginia Preschool Initiative, the Child Care Subsidy Program, and two Individuals with Disabilities Education Act programs.
